Notes

The 10th Texas Infantry had been at Camp Brazos since March 29th, when they arrived by rail from Galveston. Col. Nelson had just been given orders to march the regiment to their new assignment with the Trans Mississippi Department, headquartered at Little Rock, Arkansas. Inspite of the above issuance of ammunition, the regiment was still lacking in sufficient quanitity of weapons, and would not be issued addition ordnance till they reached their destination

Two days later the regiment set off for Little Rock, as per the April 17th diary account of Pvt. Benjamin Seaton, teamster and member of Co. G, 10th Texas Infantry:

"On the 17th at the apointed time we were all in line in too ranks and at haff past five Col. A. Nelson commander post command, sholder arms, in two ranks right face, rought step, march - arms at will. We moved off in style and with a light and quick step. It started one team after another untell they were all on the march. It made a long line from one to too miles long. We marched 8 miles that day to Johns's Pond and camped fer the night to rest our weray limbs."
