Notes

Cleburne's Division had been at Tunnel Hill since November 29, 1863. They had been the only part of the Confederate line that did not give way during the battle of Missionary Ridge on November 25th; the only reason they fell back from their position, was that they were ordered to do so, in order to act as rear guard for the retreating army. Two days later, Cleburne's Division effectively halted the Federal advance at Ringgold Gap, forcing both armies to go into winter quarters. The Division earned the thanks of the Confederate Congress for saving the Army of Tennessee.

During the battles of Missionary Ridge & Ringgold Gap, the 6th, 10th & 15th Texas Consolidated Regiment had lost 18 killed, 67 wounded and 7 misssing. On December 14th, the strength of the command was totaled, which was "Effective Total 530; Total Present 642; Aggregate Present & Absent 978; Number of Arms 437 and 66 rounds of ammunition per man." The regiment being short of 205 weapons, and being posted on the extreme northern outpost of the Confederate army, was really in need for above ordnance issue, but would still in need of additional arms and ammunition.
