The Armory Guards and The Critter Company are hosting the 2008 Battle of New Hope Church event. The event will be held at Pickett's Mill State Park and will recreate the actions that occurred during the Battle of New Hope Church in the area around Owens Mill.  We also have two preservation efforts for this event. The first is to raise money for the Atlanta History Center to help them save the George W. Wray Collection. The second will be a fence rail drive for Pickett's Mill State Battlefield Park. Click on the preservation button to the left for more information.

We will be focusing on the actions of the 29th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, 14th Louisiana Sharpshooters Battalion, 32nd Alabama Consolidated Infantry Regiment and the 9th Texas Cavalry. These units were heavily engaged with each other through out May 25th and 26th, 1864. At times they found themselves with in just a few feet of each other.

Steve Acker will be serving as the overall Federal Commander. He will be raising four companies of Infantry. Terry Sorchy, Paul Jerram, Ken Giddens and Steve Ewing will be commanding companies. Pat Craddock will be leading a Pioneer Platoon. This platoon will be limited to 20 men or less.  Overall Federal registration will be limited to 200 men.

Tripp Corbin will be the overall Confederate Commander. He will be representing a member of General Hood's staff issuing orders from Hood to stop the federal advance. The two companies of the 14th Louisiana Sharpshooter Battalion will be commanded by Robby Mitchell and Mike Kupsch. Art Milbert will be commanding the 32nd Alabama Consolidated Infantry Company. Registration for the two Louisiana companies will be limited to 30 men each in order to accurately portray their actual numbers during this battle. Overall Confederate infantry registration will be limited to 100 men.   As of January 22, 2008, Co. A 14th Louisiana Sharpshooters commanded by Robby Mitchell is full. No further registrations will be accepted.

All those participating in this event must be on site by 10 PM on May 30th. There will be no exceptions to this rule. The event will go live at 11 PM.
