We are attempting to form a campaigner battalion to participate in the 145th Anniversary of the Battle of Resaca in 2009. This will build on the effort that was started in 2005 and was continued in 2007 when we formed a campaigner company portraying the 7th Ohio which ended up with just under 60 men in the ranks. This was the largest and more importantly had the most authentic impression at the entire event.
The Battle of Resaca is hosted by the Georgia Division and is a mainstream reenactment. Hunter Poythress will be the overall Confederate Commander for the 145th Anniversary Event in 2009. Mr. Poythress is a very able commander and a friend/member of the campaigner community. He is currently commander of the Georgia Volunteer Battalion and commanded forces at several campaigner events including Return to the Ranks, Prelude to Chickamauga, and Pumpkin Vine Creek. Mr. Poythress' experience with the campaigner side of the hobby should allow us to more easily build our own mini-event inside the larger one.
To
follow up this success we hope to raise at least a four company battalion with
each company having 25 to 30 men. We will be portraying the 10th Texas Infantry.
This unit was chosen primarily due to the amount of research available thanks in
large part to Scott McKay. The 10th Texas joined the Army of Tennessee after
being exchanged following the disaster at Arkansas post. Initially due being
perceived as cowards from the surrender at Arkansas Post, no commander wanted to
allow the 10th into their ranks. General Cleburne however saw something in the
unit and took them into his command, a decision he never regretted. The 10th
proved to one of the hardest fighting units in the Army of Tennessee. The 10th
went on to fight in every Battle the Army of Tennessee was in from Missionary
Ridge to the Army's final surrender.
So far we have commitments from the WIG, Armory Guards, SCAR, North State Rifles, and Dave Thomas to support of this effort. Anyone else interested in raising a company as part of this Campaigner Battalion please contact Tripp Corbin. This will be a campaigner battalion and as such we will not be using tents, camp furniture, and so on. Guidelines though not difficult to meet will be enforced. Companies will be limited to 30 men to keep with historic strengths.

We are now selling battalion t-shirts for this event to raise money for the Friends of Resaca Battlefield.
